New Wines from Spain & Argentina along with a Martini!!!
Don't cry for me Argentina
truth is I never loved
I wanted some Malbec
it was Altos Las Hornmigas
I finally found it
and I will share it
if you can bare it!!!!
That's called carrying a tune baby.
My deaf grandmother loved my singing. I think I'll become an internet singer and try out for American Idol next year.
I was in a Domaine in Spain feeling no pain with Lorain.
I found great wine in little time that cost no more than a dime and that's no crime.
Talk about carrying a rhyme.
See you there!!

New Wines from California!!!
I'm back from a nice Sabbath in Germany with knowledge and knowhow.
Life is not as tough as one would imagine. All you need to do is stop and smell the roses, realize that grass really is green and life does not evolve around work.
I need to follow the old Greek saying,"don't do today things you can accomplish tomorrow." The thinking behind the saying is tomorrow never comes.
But should I really worry about over-working? Is what I do here work or pleassure. I do taste wine through most of the day. I do see everyone at The Wine Symposium every week. I do eat lunch everyday and I can walk out that door anytime I want to. I'm out of here babyyyyy.

These new Italian wines are very well made wines. They stimulate all your tastes buds and at very affordable prices. You won't need an AIG bonus to purchase these wines!

Wines from Washington State & California!!!
Finding new wines from California or Washington State is easy, every week a new winery hatches. The challenge is finding great wines that offer more than their peers. It's not only the price that matters when picking a new wine, if you don't like a wine and it costs only $5 would you still buy it?
A new wine has to be flavorful, more so then it's peers, has to pop a spark in the palate when you taste it and maybe even woww me. All of the wines at this weeks Wine Symposium certantly had a spark and some woww's.
The Zinfandel is quite amazing. The Merlot is one of the best Merlot's I've had since I can remember. The Cabernet's are hard to beat at their price points. Both whites are creamy and lusciously delicious. They all fit like Michael Jackson's glove.

Jim's New Finds from Bordeaux & the Rhone Valley!!!
I taste a lot of wine. France, Spain, Romania, Greece to name a few countries. I taste wine from top vintages, fair vintages and poor vintages. To me it doesn't matter what country it's from or the vintage as long as the wine is special. Sort of like my ex girlfriends.
All that matters to me is first; to smell the wine. There's nothing like a great nose on a wine that wet earth, barnyard, closet, stinky sock nose. I love it. Most of you have witnessed these distinguishing smells through your daily routine.
Secondly I look at the color. Straw like on Chardonnay's, clear like water on Sauvignon Blanc's especially from New Zealand, deep dark purple color on Shiraz's and pretty pink on Rose's. This is appealing stuff!
Am I the only one getting turned on right now?
Finally I make it to the first sip. I put the glass on my lips and as the wine is going down the first thing I notice is the texture. I love a smooth and vibrant texture in the mouth.
Then I focus on the flavor. I swirl the wine in my mouth to try to get all my tastes buds involved. This really puts me in the mood.
Lastly if the wine has proper acidity it will sparkle all over my palate and finish me off. Sometimes I draw a swet.
Do I want more or am I done?
No more!
Yes more!
No more!
Yes more!
At the end all I'm left with is the fragrance from the last sip of wine, like a one night stand.
I think I have a wet spot. On my shirt of course.
Cigarette anyone?

Jim's New Finds!!!
A little insight into what I have to go through to offer you wines that are worth while.
Monday through Thursday from 9am till 2pm I taste wines from many different sales representatives. Reds first, whites last, most remember but some forget and they hear it from me.
No price please, I don't want to be influenced by the price. I taste the wine, I consider the flavor, texture, color, acidity and most important balance. I then patiently listen to their reasoning how their wines are the best and why I should buy their particular wines. At this point I'm ready for the price, usually this is where I get the biggest laugh, and then tell them what I really think of their wine. Most come back some don't and the process continues week after week.
When I do find something worth while my first expression is mmmmmm nice or if the wine really hit the spot it's ooooooo I like it, and if it's well priced they get a rare woooowww!! That's the wine you'll sea at our in store wine symposium.
It isn't easy you know!

Organic Wines & Beers!!!
Green is the theme this week with wines made from organically grown grapes. For those that want to be eco friendly these wines fit the occasion.
What are organic wines or sulfites you ask?
Labels that read"made with organic grapes" indicate that the grapes are grown without the use of any synthetic additives, such as herbicides or chemical fertilizers. Sulfites are added unless it specifically reads "Sulfite Free".
Organic wines are not supposed to contain added sulfites according to the USDA.
I think the USDA needs to work on clarifying that a little better.
Sulfites are commonly added to wine (and other foods) to act as a preservative and disinfectant; without them, wines tend to oxidize rapidly. However, sulfites have been blamed for causing headaches, allergic reactions and asthma attacks. Even wines that don't contain added sulfites do contain small amounts of sulfur dioxide, which occurs naturally during fermentation.
If this is too technical for you, wearing a green shirt or having green teeth will be eco friendly enough.
See you there!!

Dense and layered, it has gobs of sweet fruit, incipient complexity, several years of aging potential, and a lengthy finish. Drink this superb effort from 2011 to 2022.
-2006 Bodegas Ateca Atteca
R.P.91 points The 2006 Atteca is 100% Garnacha old-vines ranging from 80-120 years. Dark ruby-colored, it delivers an alluring bouquet of Asian spices, wild black cherry, and blueberry. Scotch Tasting!!
Friday, November 7th
On behalf of the two major political parties in the United States I'd like to invite you to The Famous O'Hara's Wine & Liquors wine tasting for a night of fun and remorse. This will be a night that all people can join hands and be one together. You can put away your differences and enjoy the moment with some fine Vino, Scotch and good conversation.
The way I see it, one day soon both the male and female political parties with some effort can start agreeing on issues. Issues like picking up after yourself, contributing in a conversation instead of just having the female party do all the talking. Making important decisions together, like which football game to watch or what color curtain should be hung. Racking leaves together can become a favorite past time.
But the most important issue, as Father Dean my spiritual leader says, is to "Love each other" I have to agree.

Scary Friday, October 31st
Our presidential candidates are spending millions of dollars to boost up their image. From commercials to face lifts and expensive haircuts it's good to know our money is being spent properly.
Thinking this through though, all Obama needs to do is be honest and be more specific about the policies he wants to implement. John Mcain just needs to be real and get angry once in a while and live up to what he's suppose to be, a maverick. Also get a new running mate. I'm sick of her sarcasm, and she's always on that Saturday Night Live show?
Assuming either one of these candidates gets elected are we settling for a president or progressing as a country with a new commander at the helm? Is there a green party candidate?
Since we have to settle for low quality candidates at very high prices at next Tuesday's presidential elections, I figured I'll switch the trend. We'll have high quality wines at prices these candidates cannot relate to, low and real low.
In this week T & G it was reported that Worcester residents sent money to these candidates. I thought they were supposed to give us money not the other way around? I guess this is not Greece. In Greece when we have elections it's a good opportunity to make a little extra money. All you have to do is pretend you like someone and vote for them. Sound familiar?
Once Election Day comes around everyone waits for their envelope. It's a very festive occasion. Here the candidates do provide you with an envelope BUT IT'S EMPTY. I don't understand American politics.
This week we are featuring new wines that won't scare your pocket. Whether you come wearing a costume or nothing at all you'll be comforted by Dr Liquid!

Burgundy, France
Friday, October 24th
Perhaps some of the most stylish and elegant wines in the world are the Pinot Noir's and Chardonnay wines from Burgundy. The reds have floral aromas, toasty oak and a lot of acid which contributes to its longevity in the bottle. The whites have lush fruit flavors that are balanced with proper acid.
In Burgundy vintage matters due to the volatile and rough climate. Add the finicky Pinot Noir grape to this climate and you have either tasty grapes or sour grapes. Finding well priced wines in Burgundy is difficult due to the this factor.
The 2005 vintage was a huge success in Burgundy among other regions in France. The 2006 whites are turning out to be very promising also. We'll open another find from Alsace to top it all of. See you there!

A little bit on HARPOON Brewery
Dan Kenary, a Worcester native along with Rich Doyle and George Ligetti started the Harpoon Brewery on Northern Avenue, Boston MA twenty years ago. At the time Bass Ale was the only ale around and it was considered an almost exotic thing. Today the company has sales in 25 states, but 80 percent of its business is in New England. Dan said "We got into the business at a good time. People were open to new ideas. We went around bringing samples to bars. It was challenging because most bars had only a couple of Beers on tap." Today most taverns have up to 20 or more lines on tap. Today Harpoon is the largest craft beer brewer in New England, and one of the largest in the country. A craft beer is one produced by a regional, small or micro-brew company. This year they'll produce more than 100,000 barrels - offering four year-round beers and four Seasonal beers. Brian Carey is the Central MA Sales Representative for Harpoon Brewery. He has been with the company for 7 years and has a passion for the brand. Beer is a culture not just a drink, and Brian's goal is to invite as many new people to this fun culture that he can. He will be our guide through the dinner. We are very proud and pleased to have Dan, James and Maryanne Kenary "initial investors" (Dan's parents) joining us for the evening. Enjoy the presentations.See you on the 23rd, Chris & Helena & staff at Webster House, Jim Vasiliades, O'Hara's Liquors

Wines from The States
California & Washington State
Friday, October 10th
It will be tough to top last weeks wine tasting Symposium but it sure will be fun trying. We'll have new wines from California and old favorites that might have fallen out of favor, or out of flavor is more like it. These wines have found themselves once again.
It's as though these wines went through a transformation. They were young and innocent, then they became teenagers and lost their touch, and finally grew up and found their magic touch again. It's never easy going through your teenage years or as my father would call my brothers and I knuckleheads, in Greek of course, but there is some satisfaction making it through your teenage years with some brain cells left. Even if its just a few and I'm not reffering to Javier again.
When I think of wines from California I think of lots of fruit up front. Add in tannins and good acidity and you have what I call the Feluja effect which basically translates to a suicide bomber in your mouth. The wines just explode in your mouth.
That's flavor baby!!

Concha Y Toro Winery
Friday, October 3rd
At our wine tasting Symposium, we typically focus on wines from a particular country or region. It's been a long time since we have poured wines from only one winery.
Concha y Toro is a winery that deserves special attention because they consistently make wonderful wines. Even though Concha y Toro makes wines at different price points, they all are enjoyable wines that show varietal and micro-climate distinctiveness.
Accessible early, these wines have the depth and structure to age for years. I've recently re-tasted these and they all 'WOWED' me. Come and taste for yourself and see why we're excited about these wines!!

Wines from Spain
Friday, September 26th
We don't offer you a typical wine tasting experience. Our wines are not wines with cookie cutter flavors that are just barely good. If you want servicable wine buy Woodbridge or Sutter Home. They're good but it doesn't mean you have to like them.
We take the time to taste, re-taste and then taste again before we offer them to you at The Famous O'Hara's Symposium. Our task is never easy when it comes to finding wines that are worthy. We don't settle for good wine at our Symposium. For us, they're either great wines or not for us.
If you're not certain wether you like a particular wine we are pouring that's alright. I realize everything I like may not be what you like. I might like home cooked cabbage and beans and you may not. I know Javier likes cabbage and beans and not everyone likes him. One thing is certain we'll give you a great tasting experience along with a joke or two.
This week's line up of exceptional Spanish wines are versatile and pair wonderfully with many dishes including cabbage and beans.
I also put some thought in the process of picking wines for the Symposium. There I was thinking and before I nodded off I said to myself, 'Jim we have not tasted Madeira for quite a while.' I did a little magic and viola Madeira re-appeared in the store again!
I won't take all the credit for remembering Madeira. Our good friend, customer, and confidant Hanu mentioned to me last week that we don't have Madeira in the store. Reccomendations from the customers are accepted. Unless they are obscene reccomendations. Then again we consider those as well.

I love wines that offer a lot more than what you pay for them. This week's line-up of Italian wines delivers character and lots of flavor without breaking the bank. That's not so easy to do today with Italian wines considering the strong value of the Euro. We're sure that most of you will want to take home some of these delicious, well-made Italian wines after tasting them for yourself!!!!
We will also be pouring the most popular summertime drink in Italy this Friday. I won't tell you which one it is in the line-up. See you there!!!
