Valentine’s Day Tasting 2010
How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day?
Lets see;
Cleaning the garage, check
shoveling the walk way, check
painting the house, check
emptying your closet, check
rearranging your dining room, check
cleaning all your windows in your house, check
Inside and out of course, check & check
Now you know what we’ve been doing the last month at our house.
I do suppose though you could take the easy road out and just bring the ever popular chocolates and flowers. This may perhaps put the one you love in the mood.
We have something that will guarantee love all through the night.
WINE
A romantic Malbec from Argentina makes me think of beautiful Valentina and all she had to offer.
A Rose from Germany makes me think of Emma and her rosy cheeks. I don’t mean the ones on her face.
A lush Sicilian Bianco makes me think of Rosalina and her long dark and soft hair all over our bodies.
An extremely complex Bianco from Italy makes me think of Sophia in ’89 with all her beautiful curves. Naked.
And a delicate Pinot Noir from Australian makes me think of Mia and her soft, silky skin.
What puts you in the mood?
We Love what we do.
See you there!

Welcome 2010!!!
Wines from Rhone &

and a German!
The new year is here
don't be a square
I'll see you there
where?
at O'Hara's wine fair
People here care
with humility, I do declare
where love and laughter fills the air.
The smell of nectar is all around
drinking too much might make you a clown
amongst friends never frown
even if you're new in town.
I've been here for many a year
and still like to see you cheer
when I'm pouring you wine or a beer.
I'd like to see you once again
you are a good friend
you never pretend
you're always here to defend!

Spanish Wines
& a very special Porto!!!
There's much to gain by tasting Spain. Trying to refrain with your aim might cause pain or disdain. Spilling Spain is not a game. You don't want the blame.
Abstain from the stain otherwise it will rain on your claim to fame. It will call out your name the stain. Whether you're on a plane or train there's no shame. It's the unforgiving brain.
Plainly I will explain, the drink is always the same.
Always remember the name Spain.
Now that's insane
in your membrane.

Dear Annie
Frustrated with "I don't know".
Not too long ago I wrote how proud I am of my son. He's a freshman at St. John's High School. He's an honor student. He understands what it takes to succeed in school. He also understands the rewards associated with it. Feeling good about yourself with good grades or tickets to a ball game that I find. He prioritizes his daily and weekly routine quite well and we let him know how much his mother and I appreciate all he does.
BUT.
As of late though he's been slacking off. I constantly have to ask him about his homework. Last week he asked me to help him with his homework at 10pm on Sunday evening. I was not happy.
There are three to four reminders with every task that's expected of him. Usually that last reminder is at an elevated tone. There have been occasions where I considered punishment only to see him come through at the end.
His mother is on my case about him. She dosn't seem to understand what happened to that nice little boy. That's another story all together.
He thinks the whole family revolves around him and his needs. His favorite saying is "I don't know".
Like why are you late? "I don't know".
Why didn't you pick up the phone at home? "I don't know"
When are you cleaning the downstairs playroom?"I don't know"
Why did you eat all that candy? "I don't know"
Why did you fight with your sister?"I don't know"
Help!
See you there!

Wines From California!!!
What do you need for a classic California wine tasting.
California girls. NO
Hot weather. NO
An obnoxious governor who’s juiced up on testosterone that he can’t pronounce the name of his state clearly. DEFINITLY NO
An earthquake or two per year to keep you awake at night. NO
Or maybe some grass. You know the kind I’m talking about. The kind you need a so called “prescription” for.
Let’s not be cynical by thinking that everyone moved to the West for the beaches or any of the other reasons I have stated. Legal pleasure man!! Just ask Cheech & Chong.
MAYBE
What you do need for a classic California wine tasting is:
California’s own grape, red Zinfandel for Jen’s sake and Murphy-Goode makes a great Zin.,
A Pinot Noir from the Central Coast,
A very deep Syrah from somewhere out West,
A big, full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley that knocks your socks off. We have a special one for you,
and two very lush, racy and buttery white’s.
This week we are starting a series of Port tasting’s to give your sweet tooth an opportunity to taste the variety of styles and delicious flavors that Port has to offer. Port is definitely an after dinner drink that you can have with dessert or in place of dessert. Or if you prefer a cigar try one with a glass of Port.
Unless of course I do a Brett Farve and change my mind.
Did I say I’m doing a Port wine or not?
See you there!

Wines From Sicily, Piedmont and Tuscany, Italy!!!
When talking about Italian wines cuisine sets the table.
White wines with salads and fish dishes. A Sicilian orange and fennel Insalata paired with the white wine Insolia.
Red wines with heartier dishes like an eggplant dish paired with Nero D'avola or a Tuscan duck with orange peal paired with a Chianti.
In Northern Italy a risotto dish paired with a Cortese white wine is fabulous or stewed beef shanks paired with a red from Monferrato, Piedmont. Are you hungry yet?
So much to choose from. An adventure worth tasting this Friday!!

The Finale
New Wines and a Tequila for you young at heart!!!
The finale Wine Symposium before the summer break should be a special one. Just having me be there is truly your special pleasure.
I'll be pouring new finds like the Pinot Blanc from Oregon. This has great texture and I love texture. If you have not tasted a Chablis yet the Fevre Chablis should give you a great perspective in fine Chablis. Did you know Chablis is made from the Chardonnay grape? Now you do.
The famous Puilly Fuisse wine is also made from the Chardonnay grape. We'll have one of those wines for you to taste and for you to bring to your next gathering. This will make you the envy of the party.
The always pleasant Sparkler from Saint Hillaire will definitely make popular among the opposite gender. Been there!
The reds are very tasty and offer much deserved pleasure. We all deserve pleasure dealing with the rain for the last two weeks on a daily basis and wine is the perfect remedy.
Are we ready for sunshine? Greece anyone?
See you there!

More New Wines from California & Germany and a New Bourbon!!!
I'm looking for some moving inspiration to write on my blog this week. As I sit and think the only thing that's moving is the perspiration on my extended forehead. Maybe I need to delegate to others what I can't revel ate myself. Can I think of anyone I have admiration for before I sink into desperation to come up with something that's inspirational? Or do I prepare for condemnation by having a celebration.
I’ll start the celebration with a Pinot Noir Rose from Germany. This was a fabulous wine with its effervescent acidity and fruit flavors. Also from Germany a bone dry Riesling. You don’t find many of those coming from Deutschland. We have new vintages from old favorites Hahn and Hayman Hill. Fleur is a new winery I've discovered through my tasting binges.
We’ll top everything of with a delicious new Bourbon from Jim Beam named Red Tag. It’s infused with all natural Black Cherry flavor made from concentrate. Whatever that means.
See you there!

My son Paul is finishing the 8th grade today, his last day of school. He did very well and both my wife and I are extremely proud of him. We let him know often of how proud we are of him and always try to make sure he's having fun at the same time.
He is a kid that gets it. He knows how important school is and that he should try hard, which he does. He loves sports even more than studying. He plays baseball, flag football and soccer. He has not fully grown yet, unlike some other kids his age, but try's to reach his potential at every sport without letting any of his inabilities get to him. He's better at that than me when I was his age. I do see a lot of me in him, he's serious and try's hard to have fun with his friends when he's with them. I do hope though he develops his mother's drive to live life and experience many things. That is something his mother is better at than I am.
My only personal concern is whether I have given him enough time and attention. We do spend time together playing catch, hitting a baseball and he likes to pitch to me. His latest game is basketball and he has beaten me in a game of 21 a couple of times.
But for all that he does I feel as though I should do more for him. No matter how much time and love I give him I know he deserves more from me. When we play a game of basketball he wants another one. When he pitches to me for an hour he wants to hit for another hour. Most of the time I do the extra game and the extra hour but there are those times that being a catcher for an hour does hurt.
I realize my concerns are no different than any other fathers concerns but they are mine. Along with his sister I love them more than anything. I think that alone satisfies my conscious sometimes. I hope it does the same for his.

New Wines from California & Washington State!!!
This past month I've tasted a lot of wine. A good amount were from California and some from Washington State.
All were good but when I ask for the price, well I laughed put it that way. I'm sure I won't be seeing some of the salespeople any time soon.
I feel as though some wineries just want to make wine, put a nice label on the bottle, hire a nice looking woman to promote their product and it's done. I mean I like having a visit from a nice looking young female as much as any other guy but do I have to like all their wines? Just because your beutifull and I want to strike up a conversation with you that way I can keep you in the store longer and keep looking at you dosn't mean I have to like what's in the bottle unless it's really great stuff. Otherwise you did what you were hired to do. That's come in decked out with plenty of cleavage and make most retailers happy to see you. Nothing more, it's not personal.
I'm a little dissapointed at having so many nice looking women visiting me and trying to sell me stuff every week. I feel so used.
See you there!

Value Wines from Chile, Argentina & Spain along with a mixed drink!!!
There once was a maiden named grass per pumpernickel
who lived way out in the valley
she loved to drink value wine maiden grass per pumpernickel
With a friend named Sally.
She could carry a tune under the moon with her hair loom and sing Bob Marley.
She’s never been to town to see a clown with a frown or ride a merry go round.
The valley was her home
she felt like a queen on her thrown
whether with a friend or alone.
She would drink her value wine never feeling
inclined to share her time
But preferred to drink with Sally
