The rich volcanic soils of this hillside vineyard have produced a wine offering a deep ruby/purple color, scorched earth, black currant, cigar tobacco, and earthy notes, full body, and soft, plush tannins. Drink it over the next decade. Drink 2006-2016.

We’ll taste a jump on this, red wine and a sexy white from Greece.

I’m really starting to like Rose’s from the Rhone Valley.

A Pinot Noir that need not be envy at all.

A Merlot that’s not compensating for any short falls.

 "I was completely blown away by the wines I tasted from Il Poggione this year. Readers who want to experience first-class Sangiovese from Montalcino won’t want to miss these exceptional wines. Winemaker Fabrizio Bindocci and his team have done an exceptional job for which they deserve all the praise in the world.

The 2007 Rosso di Montalcino is a soft, floral wine with pretty red fruits that meld into tobacco, spices and minerals. The wine possesses lovely inner perfume to match its accessible personality. The 2007 is a relatively open vintage for the Rosso, and while I don’t see this vintage making old bones, it should offer highly pleasurable drinking over the next few years at a minimum. In 2007 Bindocci decided to de-stem 70% of the fruit, which yielded an especially soft, approachable wine.  "

 "As always, Grand Veneur has done a terrific job with the 2007 Cotes du Rhone Reserve red. Composed of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah, this gorgeous, dark ruby/purple-tinged offering exhibits plenty of meaty notes intermixed with black raspberries and kirsch. Full-bodied and luscious, it should provide plenty of pleasure over the next 2-3 years. "

 "The brilliant 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape should not be overlooked (the 1998 and 2000 are drinking spectacularly well at present). A peppery, leathery, earthy effort with copious quantities of black cherries, this dense, full-bodied 2001 is surprisingly precocious by Usseglio’s standards. Nevertheless, 1-2 years of cellaring is warranted given the size and structure of this big, chewy, 75% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre, 10% Cinsault, and 5% Syrah blend. It was aged in neutral wood foudres for 15-18 months. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2014."

Valentine’s Day Tasting 2010

How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day?

Lets see;

Cleaning the garage, check

shoveling the walk way, check

Now you know what we’ve been doing the last month at our house.

I do suppose though you could take the easy road out and just bring the ever popular chocolates and flowers. This may perhaps put the one you love in the mood.

We have something that will guarantee love all through the night.

WINE

 A romantic Malbec from Argentina makes me think of beautiful Valentina and all she had to offer.

A Rose from Germany makes me think of Emma and her rosy cheeks. I don’t mean the ones on her face.

A lush Sicilian Bianco makes me think of Rosalina and her long dark and soft hair all over our bodies.

An extremely complex Bianco from Italy makes me think of Sophia in ’89 with all her beautiful curves. Naked.

And a delicate Pinot Noir from Australian makes me think of Mia and her soft, silky skin.
